Memorial Description

Window of a single light bearing at centre a shield bearing the family crest in full colour. The dedication is carried at the foot in clear lettering through a black background using elaborate capitals throughout.

Inscription

In memory of William Gilfrid Baker-Cresswell, Capt. 11th (P.A.O.) Hussars who died in the
Crimea when on the march with his regiment to the Alma Sept.19th 1854 aged 29.

Notes

1. Also in the church is a plaque dedicated to the Cresswell-Baker family which includes William Gilfrid at the bottom. It reads:

To the memory also of William Gilfrid son of A.J.B. Cresswell and Elizabeth Mary his wife, Captain in the XI (P.A.O.) Hussars, who was cut off by the cholera in the Crimea, when on the march to the Alma Sept. 19th 1854, aged 29, and was buried in a Soldier’s Grave with the rites of the Church of England, on the morning of the 20th before the Battle of the Alma.
