1. The Book of Remembrance records the names of the 22 members of the College who gave their lives in the 1939-45 war; 13 RAF cadets and 9 university students.
2. The Chaplain undertook the task of compiling the details, names dates of birth, school period of residence, service unit and date place and circumstances of death. These details were passed to Mr L.C. Evetts MA ARCA Master of Design in the Department of Fine Arts at King’s College Newcastle who undertook the production of the book. The vellum was specially prepared by Messrs H. Band and Company Limited so as to allow the writing to be done with equal sharpness and facility on both hair and flesh sides. The book was arranged in folio form and was bound in red leather by Mr Sydney Cockerell. The College shield of arms was blocked on the cover and the insides of the covers were finished with marbled paper made by Mr Cockerell.
3. The writing was done with turkey quills by Mr Evetts is in a hand modern in form but somewhat reminiscent of eleventh century hands. Gilded portions of the arms of the College on the title page and of the military badges throughout the book are in a technique current in the middle ages and described in The Book of Art of Cennino Cennini, a contemporary treatise on quattrocentre painting.
4. A wooden case with a glass top is being made for the book and it will be kept in one of the window embrasures in the Hall. A bronze plaque inscribed as follows will be placed on the front of the case - This Book and the Courtyard clock are a memorial to the members of this college who gave their lives in the 2nd World War.
